Riverside Tappahannock Hospital is a 67-bed facility serving the citizens in the Tappahannock area, including Essex, King & Queen and King William counties and the Northern Neck counties of Richmond, Westmoreland, Northumberland and Lancaster. With highly trained physicians and staff and access to high-level diagnostic services and testing, the emergency team can quickly address serious or life threatening conditions.

ED physicians cross-train at Riverside Regional Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Center and are well-equipped with the skills and training necessary to provide exceptional, advanced care to patients.

Riverside Walter Reed Hospital is a 67-bed acute care hospital with an 11-bed Emergency Department (certified a Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center) providing 24-hour emergency care to the Middle Peninsula, including Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties, and the towns of Urbanna, Deltaville, Kilmarnock, White Stone, West Point and Irvington.

Emergency physicians cross-train at Riverside Regional Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Center and are well-equipped with the skills and training necessary to provide exceptional, advanced care to patients.


Our Emergency Departments are equipped with:

  • State-of-the-art trauma bay
  • Advanced pediatric equipment
  • The technology to practice cutting edge emergency medicine
  • A team trained to provide innovative emergency treatments for heart attack and stroke patients
  • Remote EKG equipment connected to local emergency transport vehicles (ambulances) in order that emergency medical responders are able to transmit EKG (heart) data directly to the emergency room before you ever arrive
  • Nurses and physicians specially trained in geriatric medicine, aging-related conditions, pediatric trauma and treatment of the critically ill
  • On call access to Riverside specialists from cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurology, obstetrics and women’s health, orthopedics, and urology
  • Immediate access to Riverside Regional Medical Center’s Emergency & Trauma Center by telemedicine, ambulance and LifeEvac helicopter giving critically ill patients access to our Level II Trauma Center, Certified Stroke Center and Heart and Vascular Center
